Parathyroid Glands Flashcards
1
Q
What do parathyroid glands secrete ?
A
Parathormone hormone (PTH) that regulates Ca2+
2
Q
What is the action of PTH ?
A
Increases the plasma Ca2+ level and decreases the plasma PO43- level
3
Q
How does PTH increase the plasma Ca2+
A
By mobilization of Ca2+ from bones
By helping reabsorption of Ca2+ in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidney
By Ca2+ absorption from the intestine
4
Q
What are the hormone regulating calcium metabolism ?
A
PTH increases and keeps the plasma Ca2+ level
Calcitonin is a calcium lowering hormone
1,25 DHCC is an active form of vitamin D3 which is initially formed in the skin by the action of sunlight
Growth hormone increases the intestinal absorption of Ca2+
