what are the emotional characteristics of phobias?
- extreme & persistent fear
- anxiety & panic
what are the cognitive characteristics of phobias?
- irrational thinking that resistant to rational reasoning
- recognition of this irrational fear
what are the behavioural characteristics of phobias?
- avoidance
- freeze or faint that interferes with life
what are the emotional characteristics of depression?
- sadness & feeling empty/worthless
- loss of interest in usual activities
- anger
what are the cognitive characteristics of depression?
- negative thoughts including guilt & worthlessness
- negative expectations
what are the behavioural characteristics of depression?
- change in activity levels (+/-)
- change in sleep (+/-)
- change in appetite (+/-)
what are the emotional characteristics of OCD?
- distress
- aware that the behaviour is excessive
what are the cognitive characteristics of OCD?
- recurring intrusive thoughts, perceived as inappropriate
- uncontrollable thoughts
- recognition that obsessions are irrational
what are the behavioural characteristics of OCD?
- repetitive compulsive behaviours aimed at reducing anxiety
- behaviour may not be connected with what they are aimed at

- anxiety disorder
- made of 2 elements - obsessions (persistent thoughts) & compulsions (repetitive behaviour)
