Q

spermatagonia

A

single layer of cells that are the youngest and least mature of the germ cells. Found on the basement membrane in between epithelium and lamina propria

Q

spermatids

A

3-4 layers on top of the spermatocytes and the uppermost layer is in the lumen

Q

How do the cells move through the epithelium?

A

move laterally along the basement membrane, they never leave the basement membrane, very different from the centripital movement we see in other stratified epithelium

Q

centripital movement

A

typical movement. moves away from the basement membrane and towards the surface. Usually occurs in stratified epithelium.

Q

describe dark type A and its division

A

The first type. The nucleus is going to be finely granule, homogeneous, and basophlic. Function: reserve stem cell for the entire line of stem cells. It sits and waits, but it does divide mitotically (Ad-> Ad + different 2nd cell: pale type A)

Q

describe pale type A and its division

A

The second type. Granular chromatin in Pale type A is not nearly as basophilic as dark type A chromatin but still basophilic; its pale. Divides mitotically and divides multiple consecutive mitotic divisions
Ap -> mitosis -> -> Ap (numerous)

Q

How are Type B cells made and describe type B and its division

A

The third type. Ap -> 2 type B.
Type B: nucleus looks like it belongs to a somatic cell, like its in an interphase state. heterochromatin and euchormatin (a light staining part that is expressed) and a nucleolus. You would never know it was a germ cell.

Q

How are primary spermatocytes made?

A

type B division
the 4th type. Type B -> 2 primary spermatocytes (this is where centripital movement occurs).
