What is one way to differentiate between dysphoria and pain after surgery?
Calming talk and gentle petting to a painful patient should make painful behaviour stop. Pet recognizes that there is someone there soothing them. When the technician leaves, the behaviour continues. If there is no reaction from the pet and they continue the abnormal behaviour, it is likely a drug reaction
Patients who appear delirious and cannot be calmed are more likely to be experiencing stress or a narcotic reaction and will benefit from administration of:
