PA and Brain Health (lecture 12) Flashcards

1

Q

What are the associations between dementia and exercise?

A

Exercise said to help prevent dementia (studies have shown a reduced risk of cognitive decline and dementia from exercise)

Exercise also said to help vascular dementia, which has positive effects on hypertension T2D

Q

Explain the relationship between PA and depression

A

PA said to help reduce both depressive symptoms and major depression, there is considered to be a bi-directional relationship between PA and depressive symptoms

Q

The benefits of exercise for those with poor mental health?

A
  • improved cardio metabolic health
  • decreased symptoms
  • improved self-esteem and sleep
  • PA offered as adjunct treatment may facilatiate engagement
