What is Geographic tongue also known as?
Benign migratory glossitis
What is one side affect of having a geographic tongue (benign migratory glossitis)?
Patient may complain of a burning sensation
Why papilla become elongated with hairy tongue?
Filliform papilla
What appears as a erythematous area at the midline of the dorsal surface of the tongue, anterior to the circumvallate papilla?
Median Rhomboid Glossitis
What does macroglossia mean
Enlarged tongue
What are a couple differences in the tongue with someone who has Down Syndrome?
Fissured tongue and Macroglossia
What does Ankylglossia mean?
Tongue tied
What is gemination?
Development of 2 crowns within a single root
What is fusion?
Joining of 2 developing teeth = 1 single large tooth
What is concrescence?
It’s a form of fusion, but they are joined by cementum only.
What teeth is it common to find concrescence?
Maxillary 2nd and 3rd molars
What is dilaceration?
A large curve or bend in a tooth
What is Dens in Dente (dens invaginatus)?
Tooth within a tooth
What tooth is it common to find dens in dente?
Maxillary lateral incisor
What is taurodontism?
Large pulp chamber
Taurodontism is commonly seen in people who have?
Down Syndrome
What is enamel pearls (ectopic enamel)?

Hereditary, or high frenum attachment and muscle pull
What is anodontia?
Complete absence of teeth
What is a supernumerary tooth?
Extra teeth in dentition
What is amelogenesis Imperfecta?
Hereditary disorder of enamel formation
-dentin and pulp appear normal
What is dentinogenesis imperfecta?
Hereditary disorder of the dentin
-in radiographs the pulp is obliterated and the crowns
What are 3 medications that can cause gingival hyperplasia?
- Phenytoin (dilantin) - seziure medications
- Calcium channel blockers -hypertension medications
- Cyclosporine - transplant medications
