Operation Of Aircraft Flashcards
Pre Flight Action
Check:
Flight can be done safely (Latest weather info, NOTAMs and PIBs) Aircraft is fit to fly All aircraft equipment is accounted for Have maps, charts and nav equipment Load is properly stored (Weight and balance calculations must be completed) Have enough fuel, oil and coolant Check performance of the aircraft can handle the flight That all pre-flight checks done Passengers are fully briefed (What to do if shit goes south, unless flying south then i guess if shit goes north, love a terrible joke within revision flashcards) Pilot is fit to fly
3 Transponder Modes
Mode A
> 4 digit code
(Mode A 7000 should be displayed by all suitably equipped aircraft unless ATCU give discreet code or transponding special purpose code)
Alt
> 4 digit code
> Aircraft altitude
Mode S
> Efficient use of radio spectrum
>Overcomes technical limitations
>Data link capability
Special Purpose codes
7700 - Emergency
(77 call heaven)
7600 - Radio failure
(76 Radio fix)
7500 - Unlawful interference
(75 got knives inside)
7000 - VFR code for normal if no code assigned
2000 - IFR code for normal if no code assigned
Wave Turbulence - basics
Bigger aircraft = slower flying = Stronger vortex
Persistent in calm conditions
Generated by fixed-wing aircraft when nose lifts off runway and continues till wheel touch on landing
Wave Turbulence - Departure Separations
If Lead aircraft: Heavy Following aircraft: Medium, Small, Light or If Lead: Medium ,Small Following: Light Departing from same-position Then 2 min delay
Repeat lead but is follow from intermediate point
3 min delay
Emergencies - Distress
“Aircraft is in GRAVE/IMMINENT DNAGER”
Call - MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY
Emergencies - Urgency
“Concerned for your safety but DOES NOT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ASSITANCE”
Call - PAN PAN, PAN PAN, PAN PAN
Search And Rescue (SAR)
Controlled by Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC)
SAR available to all aircraft
Must submit flight plan when…
Flying from/to CTZ or crossing it IFR flights VFR at night Flights crossing boarders Flying more than 10 nm from coast
SAR Emergency Phases
Uncertainty Phase - Incerfa
Uncertainty (max 30 mins)
Alert Phase - Alerfa
Apprehension (Max 1hr)
Distress Phase - Detresfa
GRAVE/IMMINENT DANGER
SAR Signals
V - Require Assistance
X - Require Medical Assistance
“Arrow to the right” - Proceeding in this direction
Y - Yes or Affirmative
N - No or Negative
Accident Investigation
Report if
- Anyone is killed, seriously injured
- The aircraft incurs damage or structural failures
Interception Procedures
If intercepted:
Keep calm + comply immediately
Notify ATSU
Attempt to establish communication
Set transponder code to 7700
