ATC - Air Traffic Control
Prevent Collisions, Keep orderly flow, Provide useful info
FIS - Flight Information Service

Prevent collisions in air/Manoeuvring area
Keep orderly flow of traffic

What are some of the Types of ATC
Area Control Centre
Approach Control
Aerodrome Control
Area Control Centre - Service to en-route aircraft
> Call sign “CONTROL”
> “RADAR” if provided en-route radar
Approach Control - Responsible for arrivals/departures at aerodromes
> Large airports vector traffic (Dictate flight patterns)
Call sign “Radar”
> Small airports make sure traffic separated by levels/time/distance procedurally
Call sign “APPROACH”
Aerodrome Control - ADC (Air Data Computer) may be divided into tower + ground at larger airports
> Ground Controller responsible for traffic in Manoeuvring area up to holding area runway
Call sign “GROUND”
> Tower - traffic on runway, in circuit or approaching to land
Call sign “TOWER”
> Small airfields combine functions
Call sign “TOWER”
What do Flight Information Services do at Aerodromes
Provide info useful to safe + efficient conduct of flights
