Q

What is the QFE and how is it useful?

A

QFE = HEIGHT

QFE (Query Field Elevation) is the amount of atmospheric pressure setting at aerodrome elevation. It can be used to measure the height of an aircraft

Height = distance from specified datum

Q

What is QNH ?

A

QNH = ALTITUDE

QNH (Query Nautical Height) is the pressure at mean sea level.

It can used to find the ALTITUDE of an aircraft

Q

Which pressure settings to use?

A

Take-Off: QNH or QFE of Aerodrome

Below Transition Altitude: QNH

Above Transition Layer: Standard Pressure setting (SPS) (1013.2)

On airways: SPS
