Airspace Flashcards
What is the basic division of airspace?
Lower airway and Upper Information region airway
Different in each country
In Madrid
Lower: Surface to FL195
Upper: FL195 to FL660
Types of Airspace
Controlled:
Alpha - Highest status busiest airspace
(IFR only, ATC clearance before, comply with ATC , Provides aircraft separation)
Bravo, Charlie ,Delta, Echo - Decreasing restrictions + requirements
Uncontrolled:
Foxtrot
Golf
Air Ground Communication Services
CTR,CTA
Control Zone (CTR) around busier airports, ground up to specific altitude or FL (flight level)
Control Area (CTA) upwards from specified altitude/FL to an upper FL limit
Airways + TMA
Airway - Control Area in form of corridor 10NM wide
When passing through CTR/CTA adopts class of tht airspace
TMA - major aerodrome with busy airspace
CTA - less busy
Terminal Manoeuvring Area - CTA established as a junction of airways of 1 or more major aerodromes
TMA - major aerodrome with busy airspace
CTA - less busy
Military Air Traffic Zones
MATZ - around military aerodromes, surface to certain limit, usually 5nm radius, has entrance corridors
Technically ATZ - ask permission to enter
civil pilots STRONGLY ADVISED to contact military controller
Airspace Restrictions
Prohibited Area (P) - No flight prohibited
Restricted Area (R) - Restricted to particular conditions
A slash and a number indicates vertical upper limit to area
Danger Areas
Airspace where dangerous activities may occur
