A
A potent antiemetic and anti-nauseant, acting on
the vagal nerve which has an effect on the vomiting
centre in the brain, also blocking serotonin receptors
SIDE EFFECTS • Headache • Dysrhythmias • Constipation • Flushing

Indications, contrainidications & precautions
A
• Nausea and/or vomiting
KSAR • Long QT syndrome • Patients < 2years • Current apomorphine therapy (Parkinson’s disease medication)
• Hepatic impairment
• GIT obstruction
• Current cardiac
arrhythmias

Dosages
A
ADULT DOSAGE Nausea and/or vomiting LEVEL ROUTE DOSAGE EMT 2 PO 4-8mg (1-2 tablets) Max dose 8mg EMT 2 IM 4-8mg Max dose 8mg EMT 2 IV 4mg (2ml) Ondansetron Slow IV push May be repeated once after 10 minutes to total max dose of 8m
PAEDIATRIC DOSAGE Nausea and/or vomiting LEVEL ROUTE DOSAGE EMT 2 PO ≥5yrs - 4mg (1 tablet) Single dose only EMT 2 IM ≥5yrs - 2mg Single dose only 2-5yrs - 100mcg/kg Single dose not to exceed 2mg (Single dose only) EMT 2 IV >2 years - 100mcg/kg Slow IV push Single dose not to exceed 2mg (Single dose only)
