Ceftriaxone is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum cephalosporin. It is in the penicillin class of antibiotics.
side effects: Nausea and vomiting
• Pain at the IM injection site

Suspected meningococcal
septicaemia (with a nonblanching petechial AND/
OR purpuric rash)
KSAR
• Known KSAR to Penicillin
no precautions

A
adult: IM- Ceftriaxone 1g
Diluted with 3.6mls of water
for injection in a 10ml syringe
Single use only dose
Paediatric: IM: 1g powder Diluted with 3.6mls of water for injection in a 10ml syringe. Max total 1g Single use only dose
Weight and dose: <5kg 250mg 1ml
>5-10kg 500mg 2ml
>10-15kg 700mg 3ml
>15kg 1g 4ml
