Action and side effects
A
Morphine is a potent analgesic that alters the
perception of pain. It acts on the CNS by binding with
opioid receptors in the brain.
- ALOC
- Respiratory depression
- Hypotension
- Nausea and vomiting
- Miosis
- Bradycardia
- Drowsiness

Indications, contraindications & precautions
A
• Significant pain
KSAR • Renal failure • Patients < 1 year • Pregnant women ≥20 weeks gestation in labour
Elderly people • Hypotension • Known narcotic addiction • Respiratory tract burns • Chest pain of a cardiac nature • Respiratory depression/ failure • Concurrent MAOI therapy

A
Adult: EMT 2 IM ≥70yrs - 2.5mg-5mg Repeat every 10mins if required (max dose 10mg) <70yrs - 2.5mg-10mg Repeat every 10mins if required (max dose 20mg) EMT 2 IV Dilute 10mg/1ml Morphine with 9ml NaCl 0.9% ≥70yrs - 2.5mg Repeat every 5mins if required (max dose 10mg) <70yrs - 2.5mg-5mg Repeat every 5mins if required (max dose 20mg)
