What is the indirect object?
the person or thing to which the action of the verb is focused on
what kind of sentences do indirect objects appear in?
Intransitive sentences ie sentences which have dar, pedir, decir
Where is Placement 1 of the indirect object in relation to the verb?
Usually AFTER of the transitive verb.
Where is Placement 2 of the indirect object in relation to the verb when it switches to its pronoun form?
Either before or after the transitive verb.
What is the 1st and main use of the indirect object?
to describe the immediate receiver of the action.
José dio un paquete a Jesús. Why is Jesús the indirect object?
He receives the package.
What is the 2nd use of the indirect object?
It expresses the relation between a person and the thing the verb describes.
A mi madre le sienta bien ese vestido. Why is looks great the indirect object?
Looking great explains the relationship between “mi madre” and “ese vestido”
What is the 3rd use of the indirect object?
It expresses direction when used together with a verb of movement.
Le anda detrás.
Le is the indirect object.

Way 1 to identify the indirect object?
Substitute the indirect object for its pronoun form
Carlos dio un puñetazo a Juan (Carlos punched Juan). what does this become when use Way 1 to identify the indirect object?
Carlos le dio un puñetazo = Carlos punched him.
Sandra pidió un favor a María. (Sandra asked Maria a favour). what does this become when use Way 1 to identify the indirect object?
Sandra le pidió un favor = Sandra asked her a favour
Way 2 to identify the indirect object?
Ask the verb the question “¿a quién ((to) whom)?”.
Carlos dio un puñetazo a Juan (Carlos punched Juan). What does this become when use Way 2 to identify the indirect object?
¿A quién dio un puñetazo Carlos? (A Juan) = Whom did Carlos punch? (Juan)
