Greywacke gravel to heavy silt to heavy loam
Gimblett Gravels is an area of deep shingle soils, good Syrah and Bordeaux style blends
Notable subregions: Bridge Pa, Esk Valley, Dartmoor Valley

Also known as Poverty Bay
White grapes: Chardonnay is the regions most planted grape. Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, and Muller-Thurgau also perform well in the region
Wairarapa:
Southernmost region of the North Island
Region is officially named Wellington
Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are successful particularly in the subregion of Martinborough
