Granite Belt - Continental climate with plentiful rain. Shiraz and Semillon are moderated by high altitude and cooler mountain air.
South Burnett - Subtropical climate. Shiraz and Merlot lead. Modern industry first plantings in 1993.
(Darling Downs directly south of South Burnett seems poised to become the state’s third GI in the future)
Tasmania
Australia’s coolest wine producing area.
Pinot Noir is the most planted grape.
Traditional method sparkling wines 44% of total production in 2012.

Northern Tasmania: Pipers River (Pinot Noir), Tamar Valley (Cabernet Sauvignon), North West Coast
Southern Tasmania: Derwent Valley, Huon Valley, Coal River(Cabernet Sauvignon)/Richmond, The East Coast
