neurophysiology of emotion 3, cortical control Flashcards
wat are the two regions of the anterior cingulate cortex, what do they do?
ventral: affective
dorsal: cognitive
what role does the anterior cingulate cortex play in emotion?
integration of visceral, attentional and emotional input
regulation of affect
monitors or detects conflict between “right now” and new information with potential consequences
relays info to prefrontal cortex
what are the two divisions of prefrontal cortex
dorsolateral
ventromedial
what does dorsolateral prefrontal cortex do?
receives input from:
motor areas (basal ganglia and pre, supplementary motor cortex)
cingulate cortex
cortical association areas
what does ventromedial prefrontal cortex do?
receives input from:
amygdala
hippocampus
temporal visual association area
dorsolateral prefrontal cortex
what are the three roles of the prefrontal cortex in control of emotion?
reward processing with amygala: link new stimulus with primary reward
integration of bodily signals (ventromedial prefrontal): decision when logic doesnt help
top down regulation: delayed gratification
