Neurophys: Synapse Flashcards
Where does information transfer from on a neuron?
Dendrite, cell body, muscle, gland
Pre or post?
Neurotransmitter is released from a nerves axon terminal (sending the message)
Pre-synaptic neuron
Pre or post?
The dendrite of the next neuron has receptors that are stimulated by the neurotransmitter
Post-synaptic
Where is does the AP start in ?
Dendrite
(If all goes well)
Step one
AP arrives Ca+ channels open due to depolarization
Step two
Vesicle fuses and migrate with pre-synaptic membrane
Step Three
Neurotransmitter is released into synaptic cleft and binds on the post-synaptic membrane
Step four
Chemically/ligand gated ion channels open generating a graded potential —> when there’s change from rest, goes into AP
Step five
Graded potential reaches the axon hillock
Step six
After being broken down and released an AP with voltage gated channels is triggered
Chemically gated (ligand-gated)
Open with binding of a specific neurotransmitter
