Neural plasticity Flashcards
What is neural plasticity?
NS can mould, change, grow and regenerate
Changes can be short term or long term
For eg. if you have a stroke on one part of the brain, the others will take over functions
When your brain gets rid of things it doesn’t use, what is that called?
Synaptic pruning
What is neurogenesis?
Increased blood supply to the brain
What happens when you get a brain injury?
Neurogenesis (blood), support nerves will increase, cortical remapping, more nerves and synapses work effectively
What is constraint induced movement therapy?
Mirror therapy, repetitive task practice, VR reality
Types of neuroplasticity?
Synaptic pruning
Neurogenesis
Myelination of axons
Synaptic spa
Why do we need neuroplasticity?
