Network Hardware Flashcards
What is the network interface card and what is the purpose for it?
A network interface card is a card usually built into the motherboard of the computer. The card is an extension which allows the computer to connect to a network.
What is terminator and what is the purpose of the terminator?
A terminator is a piece of hardware placed on both ends of a coaxial cable to absorb signals and stopping them from bouncing back.
Identify 3 network hardwares.
You could have had any three from the list below: Network Interface Card Terminator Coaxial Cable Copper Cable (UTP - Unshielded Twisted Pair) Fibre Optic Cable Hubs Routers Wireless Bridges Switches
Identify 2 network hardwares and explain the purpose of them.
You could have had any two from the list below:
Network Interface Card - Connects a computer to a network.
Terminator - Placed at both ends of a coaxial cable to absorb signals from bouncing back down the cable.
Coaxial Cable - Used for the transmission of signals.
Copper Cable - Uses electrical signals to pass data through networks.
Fibre Optic Cable - Used to send signals at a higher bandwidth.
Hubs - They broadcast the input signal from one port to all other ports.
Routers - Forwards data packets between different computer networks.
Wireless - To transfer data wirelessly from one location to another and connect different devices to the internet.
Bridges - Bridges connect two network segments together.
Switches - Used to take inputs and send out data packets to specific destinations.
What is a network switch?
A network switch is network hardware that centralises communication among multiple devices on a network.
