What is a PAN?
Personal area networks(PAN) are networks for personal devices to connect to. Examples of personal devices would be smartphones, tablets, printer,etc.
What is a LAN?
Local area networks(LAN) are networks located on one site such as a building or a school. For services to be provided, the user must be within the area of the LAN.
What is a VPN?
Virtual private networks(VPN) are networks like local area networks expect you don’t have to be at the location to access the services. These networks connect computers to the main LAN through a public network. The connection is then secured through encryption.
What is a WAN?
Wide area networks(WAN) are networks used to cover larger areas in different locations. They are essentially many LANs joined together.
What is a MAN?
Metropolitan area networks(MAN) are networks that operate as a public service for the public and number of companies. Usually used in metropolitan city areas.
Identify one advantage and disadvantage of metropolitan area network.
One advantage of a MAN is that it can be offered as a public service. One disadvantage of MANs would be the fact that they must be connected together within a metropolitan city area.
