Nervous System Flashcards
Autonomic Nervous System Subdivisons
sympathetic (fight or flight), parasympathetic (rest & digest), enteric (GI)
Responsible for innervating organ systems; involved in detecting and responding to info from internal body environment
Motor Pathways consist of….
preganglionic cell bodies (CNS-brain spine) and postganglionic cell bodies in peripheral ganglia (outside brain spine)
Sensory Pathways consist of…
single neurons in sensory ganglia of certain brain and spinal nerves
Somatic Nervous System
Innervates skin & muscles; is mainly involved in receiving and responding to info from external envrionment
General Somatic Afferent
transmits sensory pain, tempt, touch, etc. (from limbs to CNS)
General Somatic Efferent
motor impulses to skeletal muscles of body (from CNS to limbs)
General Visceral Afferent
Sensory impulses from organs to CNS
General Visceral Efferent
motor impulses to smooth muscle, cardiac muscles & glands
