nervous system Flashcards
what is the nervous system
senses information about internal and external factors
anaylsis information recieved
instigate an approriate response
what id the central neverous system
brain and spinal cord
is the bodys control centre , it coordinates the bodys voulntary and invoulantary activies
what is PNS
sensory and motor neurons and other nerve cells , subdivide into somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system
what is the autonomic nervous system
controls autonomic body actions ( .e.g. breathing and heartbeat) by conducting nerve impulse to and from the central nervous system
sympathic nervous system
perpares bodies for dealing with emergencies by increasing heart rate, breathing rate. dillating blood vessels , stimulating sweat gland and decreasing gastrointesinal activities
parasymethic nervous system
balances the actions of the sympathic nervous system by creating conditons for rest and sleep
what are neurons
respond and recieve to stimuli and initate actions by transmitting electrical impulses
sensory neurons
transmits stimului from sensory organs snd receptors to the brain and spinal cord. sensations such as heat pain taste and smell.
motor neurons
carry messages from the central nervous system to muscles organs and glands to stimulate activities
association neurons
link sensory and motor neurons to keep messages and responses functioning effectively
what are two properties that nervous tissue
excitability- the ability to respond to a stimulus by coverting it to a nerve impulse
conductability - the ability to transmit impulses to muscles , glands and other neurons
transmission
junctions between neurons are called synapse
chemicals called neurotransmitters transmit an electrical impulse from one neurone to the next across a synpase
responses
sensory neurons- respond to mechanical stimuli ( touch and pressure)
thermal stimuliiiiii ( heat and cold)
chemical stimuili- external sources or internally relseased by the body
parkignsons disease
Nervous System
slow meovments and stiff inflexable muscles
Affected Parts: Brain (especially the basal ganglia) and spinal cord.Cognitive Changes: Memory problems and difficulty with attention from affected brain areas
- Musculoskeletal System
Affected Parts: Muscles and joints.
Symptoms:
Rigidity: Stiff muscles make movement difficult.
Postural Issues: Balance problems lead to falls.
Endocrine System
Affected Parts: Hormone regulation.
Symptoms:
Mood Changes: Depression and anxiety due to hormonal imbalances.
what is multpilr scelrosis
a progressive condition affecting the brain and spinal cord causing problems with movement, balance
nervous system - weakness and spams , loss of condtion due to damage of myelin
