Energy Final Boss Flashcards
What is law of conversation energy
According to the law of conservation of energy, entry can neither be created or destroyed it can only be transforme, from one form to another
Chemical
Heat
Electrical
Sound
Light
What is the body good at converting which energy
The body is good at converting chemical energy in food to other forms of energy
- heat to keep warm
- kinetic energy to move around
- electrical energy to send nervous impulses
- sound energy to speak or make noise
What is metabolism
- the body converts ingested food into the chemicals and energy it needs to grow and function
- cells can build complex molecules from simple producers of digestion
- in cells, chemical processes released stored energy from products of digestion
- the rate at which energy is released from cells is known as metabolic rate. Metabolism involves catabolism and anabolism
WHAT IS BMR ( basal metabolic rate )
The rate of metabolism when body is at rest: a warm environment or hasn’t eaten in 12 .
- this is state Energy is released just sufficient to meet essential needs for vital organs
What is catabolism
Anaerobic and aerobic respiration
The chemical breakdown of complex substances such as
- carbohydrates
- glucose
- protein
If body has plenty of oxygen aerobic respiration takes places. The products a re carbohydrates and water which are excreted through the lungs
In cells aerobic respiration takes place in
IF THERE is insufficient oxygen, anaerobic respiration occurs. The products lactic acid
In cells anaerobic respiration takes place in cytoplasm.
What is anabolism
Anabolism is the opposite of catabolis. The building up of larger molecules from smaller one. .e.g. proteins from amino acids.
Examples of anabolism
- building muscle tissue
- creating new cells
- mineralising bone
What are the word equations for aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration - The word
Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water + energy
Anaerobic
Glucose —-> latic acid + energy
