Nervous system Flashcards
What makes up the central nervous system (CNS)
Spinal cord and the brain
What makes up the peripheral nervous system (PNS)
Peripheral nerves and ganglia
What do Glias do
Support neurons. There are 5 basic types
What are the 4 neuron morphologies
Multipolar, Bipolar, unipolar and anaxonic
How many type of Glia are there and what are their names
5. Astrocytes Microglia Ependymal cells Oligodendrocytes Schwann cells
Where are the different types of glia
Astrocytes, Microglia, Ependymal cells, Oligodendrocytes are in the CNS
Schwann cells are in the PNS
What is involved in a synapse
Axon terminals of pre ganglionic nerve and dendrites of post ganglionic nerve.
Where does synapse occur
Between/Outside neuron cells
Where do action potentials travel
Along the axon
What is released during synapse
Neurotransmitters
