Immune disorders Flashcards
What is SCID
Loss of T and B cells (Individuals often don’t survive long due to lack of immune system.
Describe Rheumatoid arthritis
Autoimmune disease - hyper active immune system that attacks own cells. Particularly synovial joints, causing chronic inflammation.
Why do allergic reactions occur
Immune system (APC) confuses Allergens as antigens and launches a response
Describe type 1 hypersensitivity
B cells produces antibody (IgE), which binds to mast cells through FC receptors
When exposed to allergen again mast cells degranulate releasing cytotoxins
What antibody is produced most during type 1 allergic reaction
IgE - large, monomeric.
What do mast cells release
Histamine - causes symptoms of reaction and occurs immediately
