Nerves Flashcards
what cells initiate and propagate ureteric peristalsis
ureteric cells which have their own built-in auto-rhymthicity
what causes the bladder to contract?
parasympathetic fibres (S2-4)
urethral sphincter control during ejaculation
sympathetics internal and external urethral sphinters and levator ani contract
urethral sphincter control during urine flow
parasympathetics relax internal urethral sphincter somatic motor (pudendal nerve) cause external urethral sphincter and levator ani to contract
five types of nerve fibre
- somatic sensory= sensations from body wall
- visceral afferent= sensations from organs
- somatic motor= responses to body wall
- sympathetic and parasympathetic= responses of organs
how many pairs of spinal nerves are there?
31
how many pairs of cranial nerves are there?
12
where do sympathetic nerve fibres leave the CNS
T1-L2
what levels do sympathetic fibres leave the CNS for kidneys, ureter and bladder?
T10-L2
where do parasympathetic nerve fibres leave the CNS?
CNIII, VII, IX and X
sacral spinal nerves
how do parasympathetic nerve fibres innervate the kidneys and ureters?
vagus nerve
which parts of the renal system are involved in somatic motor fibres?
perineum e.g. urethra, external urethral sphincter and levator ani
location of renal colic
loin to groin
location of bladder pain
suprapubic
location of urethra pain (perineal part)
localised to perineum
