NECESSARY LIFE FUNCTIONS & SURVIVAL NEEDS Flashcards
Maintains boundaries
Remember the bone marrow lecture. Imagine a part of your femur brakes, & fragments of it are scattered throughout that area of the body. Your body will view those bones as a threat & attack that bone. In the process, other parts of your body will be harmed.
Movement
(inputs & outputs)
To live, your body must be able to have locomotion(internal movement) & movement of substance. For example, your blood flow, or the transfer of proteins on a cellular level.
Responsiveness
ability to sense changes & react
Digestion
break down & absorption of nutrients
Nutrients
metabolism- chemical reaction within the body
-produces energy
-makes body structures
Excretion
Eliminates waste from metabolic reactions
Reproduction(cells)
Produces a future generation.
Growth
Increase cell size & number cells
Nutrients(SURVIVAL NEEDS)
One must need chemicals for energy & cell building. This includes carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, & minerals.
Oxygen(SURVIVAL NEEDS)
Essential for chemical reactions in the body.
Water(SURVIVAL NEEDS)
You are 60%-80% water. As you get older, you will lose water. Water allows for metabolic reaction, & stable body temperature.
Atmospheric pressure
Must be appropriate.
