How did Nazis justify Kristallnacht?
A polish jew assassinated a Nazi politician in France
Nazis used this as propaganda to show how Jews were violent and would destroy Germany, they must be retaliated against
What happened during Kristallnacht?
100 killed
20,000 sent to concentration camps
Businesses, synagogues and homes attacked, windows smashed and violence
What happened after Kristallnacht?
Jews blamed for starting it and fined 1 billion reichsmarks
Now Jews not permitted to their own businesses

SS were responsible for forced Jewish emigration
What happened to any remaining Jews?
Forced into ghettos
Had to hand in radios so couldn’t listen to foreign news
What was life like for young boys in Nazi Germany?
Joined Hitler youth every day after school
Wore military style clothes
Activities centred around pe and indoctrination
What was life like for German girls in Nazi germany?
Joined league of German maidens every day after school
Uniform = long skirt and marching boots
Mainly domestic work and preparing to become a mother
What were schools like in Nazi germany?
Aim to indoctrinate children and keep them from questioning
So these ideals would continue for years
Learnt Nazi ideas such as racial purity and the science of genetics
Lots of pe, less maths and chemistry
Nazi beliefs on race
Aryans were master race
Others were subhuman
Believed in racial purity so removing certain ethnicities deemed subhuman from the gene pool
Sterilisation
Nazi policy of preventing disabled people from having children in an attempt to eradicate disabled people

The murder of certain groups such as the disabled and Jewish people to eradicate them
Concentration camps
Removing and segregating any one who didn’t fit the Nazi ideals of Aryan race
Eugenics
Nazis idea of combining sterilisation of those they viewed as undesirable
And euthanising those they deemed as a threat
In pursuit of creating a ‘pure’ aryan race
Did working conditions actually improve over this period?
In reality not as much:
Wages fell
Number of hours increased
Factory accidents increased
Despite beauty of labour scheme, protesting working conditions = blacklisted from industry
