Musculoskeletal Disorders Flashcards
degenerative joint disease/osteoarthritis
Type of arthritis marked by progressive cartilage degeneration in synovial joints and vertebrae. (breakdown of synovial joints cartilage, and gets worse)
rheumatoid arthritis
Disorder that involves chronic inflammatory, systemic disease affecting the synovial joints. (chronic Swelling of synovial joints. Can spread all over)
Osteoporosis
Systemic condition and metabolic disease involving wasting or deterioration of bone mass an density. (bone mass/density breaking down. Can Effect all over)
Bursitis
Swelling of bursa because of overuse, trauma, gout, or infection
Sprains
Tearing injuries to ligaments
Strains
Tearing injuries to muscle or both the muscle and tendon together
Complete fracture
Bone is completely broken
Incomplete fracture
When the line of fracture does not include the whole bone
Closed fracture
Fracture where there is No skin wound
Open fracture
Fracture where an external wound leads down to the site of fracture
Comminuted fracture
Fracture where the none is broken into pieces
Greenstick fracture
Fracture where the bone is partially bent and partially broken
Hairline fracture
Fracture where all portions of bone are in perfect alignment being a minor fracture
Stress fracture
Is a fracture where a fine hairline fracture appears without evidence of any soft tissue injury
Degenerative joint disease goals
Pain control, manage inflammatory process, promotional of functional activities using task modifications (reacher sticks) or assistive devices, decreasing weakness and increasing flexibility
