Americans with Disabilities act - no discriminating jobs, public accommodations, state and local government services and telecommunications
Disabilities include physical, or mental impairments that limits one or more major life activites (ADLS etc)
ADA title 1
job discrimination - cannot discriminate if person can perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation (undue hardship)
ADA title 2
equal access to public services, including transportation
ADA title 3
equal access to public accommodations - including private businesses and services
(excluded are religious and some private clubs)

IDEA
Individuals with Disabilities Act
law insuring services to children with disabilities
governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services
infants and toddlers (birth-2) get early intervention services

PT’s/PTA’s involved in individualized education plan (IEP) or individualized family service plan (IFSP)
requirements for periodic re-licensure

What does OSHA do?
fed gov regulatory agency looks over the health and safety of workers
makes protective standards, enforces them, research and consultation
bloodborne pathogens standard (BPS) means employers must provide safe environment and equipment to employees
makes employers do everything they can to prevent BP
Universal Precautions
all blood and body fluids are considered infectious

between people in an intimate relationship - coercion, threats, intimidation, isolation, and emotional, sexual and physical abuse

not allowing patient to be interviewed alone noncompliance with pt missed appts isnt allowed at home to take meds abuser cancelling appts lacking independent transportaion, access to finances chronic pain injuries during pregnancy repeated and chronic injuries easily startled, very guarded overuse of drugs etc

2010 - we are required to say somethin if we see something - local police or adult protective services
