Muscles Of The Medial Compartment Of The Thigh Flashcards
What are the 5 muscles found in the medial compartment of the thigh? What are the common called as a group?
Hip adductors
Gracilis, obturator externus, adductor brevis , adductor longus and adductor magnus
What nerve innervates the medial muscles of the thigh? Where does this nerve arise?
Obturator nerve
Arises from the lumbar plexus
What artery supplies the medial compartment of the thigh?
Obturator artery
Where is the adductor magnus muscle found in the thigh?
Medial compartment
Most posteriorly (largest of all hence the name)
How is the adductor magnus muscle of the thigh often divided?
Into the adductor art and the hamstring part
What are the attachments of the adductor magnus muscle of the thigh?
Adductor part; originates from the inferior rami of the pubis and the rami of the ischium
Attaches to the linea aspera of the femur
Hamstring part; originates from the ischia tuberosity and attaches to the adductor tubercle and medial supercondylar line of the femur
What is the action of the adductor magnus muscle of the thigh?
Adduct the thigh.
Adductor component also flexes the thigh with the hamstring portion extending the thigh
What nerve innervates the adductor magnus muscle of the thigh?
Adductor part- obturator nerve (L2-4)
Hamstring part- tibial nerve (L4-S3)
Where is the adductor longus found in the thigh?
What is its relationship with the femoral triangle?
Medial compartment
Large flat muscle.
Partially covering the adductor brevis and magnus
Forms the medial border of the femoral triangle
What are the attachments of the adductor longus muscle of the thigh?
Originates from the pubis and expands into a fan shape, attaching broadly to the linea aspera of the femur.
What is the action of the adductor longus muscle of the thigh?
Adduction and medial rotation of the thigh
What nerve innervates the adductor longus muscle of the thigh?
Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
What and where is the adductor brevis muscle of the thigh?
Short muscle lying underneath the adductor longus.
Lies between the anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve. Therefore it can be used as an anatomical landmark to identify the aforementioned branches.
What are the attachements of the adductor brevis muscle of the thigh?
Originates from the body of pubis and inferior pubic rami.
Attaches to the linea aspera of the femur, proximal to the adductor longus
What is the action of the adductor brevis muscle of the thigh?
Adduction of the thigh
