Intrinsic Muscles Of The Shoulder (rotator cuff muscle questions in 'shoulder') Flashcards
Why are intrinsic shoulder muscles classified as intrinsic?
Because they originate from the scapula and/or clavicle and attach to the humerus
What are the 6 intrinsic muscles of the shoulder?
Deltoid, teres major, teres minor, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis
What are the 3 parts of the deltoid called?
Anterior, middle and posterior
Where does the deltoid muscle attach to?
Originates from the scapula and clavicle and attached to the deltoid tuberosity
What nerve innervated the deltoid?
The Axillary nerve
What is the action of the anterior fibres deltoid muscle?
Flex the arm at the shoulder
What is the action of the posterior fibres of the deltoid muscle?
Extends the arm at the shoulder
What is the action of the middle fibres of the deltoid muscle?
Abductor of the arm (15-90 degrees)
What is the attachment of the teres major shoulder muscle?
Originates from the posterior surface of the inferior angle of the scapula and attached to the bicipital groove of the humerus
What nerve innervates the teres major muscle?
Lower subscapular nerve
What is the action of teres major?
Adducts at the shoulder and medically rotates the arm
