Q

What is seen in a positive Trendelenberg test?

A

Patient stands on one leg. Pelvic drop occurs on the raised leg. Recognised by looking for the level of the iliac crests on both sides.

Q

Why does the pelvis drop?

A

When there is damage to the superior gluteal nerve. Gluteus medius and minimus cannot stabilise the pelvis. They normally contract when the contralateral leg is raised which prevents pelvis from dropping on that side.
