Back Muscles Flashcards
Actions of the trapezius?
Descending part elevates the scapula
Ascending arm depresses the scapula
Middle part retracts the scapula
Descending and ascending work together to superiorly rotate the glenoid cavity.
Innervation of the trapezius?
Motor: Spinal accessory nerve
Sensory: C3&4 spinal nerves
Attachments of the trapezius?
Skull down to T12
Attaches to posterior surface of scapula and clavicle
Attachments of the latissimus dorsi?
Thoracic spine, iliac crests and inferior 3 ribs
Converges to a tendon that attaches to intertubercular groove of humerus
Innervation of the latissimus dorsi?
Thoracodorsal nerve (C6, 7, 8)
Action of the latissimus dorsi?
Extends, adducts and medially rotates the humerus.
Raises body towards arms during climbing
Innervation of the levator scapulae?
Dorsal scapula nerve (C4 and 5) Cervical nerve (C3 and 4)
Action of the levator scapulae?
Elevates scapula
Rotates scapula to tilt glenohumeral joint inferiorly
Attachments of the levator scapulae?
Transverse processes of C1-4
Attaches to medial borders of scapula
Where do the rhomboids lie in relation to the trapezius muscle?
They lie deep to the trapezius muscle
Attachments of the rhomboid major?
T2-5 vertebrae
Medial border of the scapula
Attachments of the rhomboid minor?
C7-T1
Medial border of the scapula
Innervation of the rhomboids?
Dorsal scapula nerve (C4&5)
Actions of the rhomboids?
Retract scapula and rotate its glenoid cavity inferiorly
Fix scapula to thoracic wall
Attachments of the deltoid?
Scapula and clavicle
Deltoid tuberosity on lateral surface of the humerus
