16
Q

How do involuntary muscles help us in sport?

A

The involuntary muscles of the blood vessels are especially important sport. By the muscles contracting and relaxing it helps distribute blood to areas it is most needed

17
Q

Cardiac muscles

A

Only found in the wall of the heart it is a very specialised type of involuntary muscle

18
Q

Antagonistic pairs

A

When one muscles contracts (agonist) the other relaxes (antagonist) to allow the joint to work

19
Q

What are the 3 antagonistic pairs that i need to know?

A

Bicep and Tricep
Quadriceps and Hamstring
Gastrocnemius and Tibialis Anterior

20
Q

Slow twitch fibres - type 1

A

Dark in colour because of myoglobin and have a good 02 supply

21
Q

Fast twitch fibres

A

Lighter in colour because they don’t use 02 to make energy
Type 11A - More prone to fatigue than type 1, producing fast, strong muscle contractions
Type 11B - Extremely fast contractions to produce short, fast bursts of power and rapid fatigue
