Muscle Insertions and Origins Flashcards
Superficial pectoralis
Origin: first 2 sternebrae
insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
action: adduct the limb, prevent abduction when weight bearing
Deep pectoralis
origin: ventral sternum
insertion: greater and lesser tubercles of the humerus
action: adduction of the limb
Brachiocephalicus
origin: distal humerus
insertion: mastoid process of temporal bone
action: extend the shoulder, draw neck to side
Omotransversarius
origin: distal scapular spine
insertion: wing of the atlas
action: extend shoulder, flex neck laterally
Trapezius
origin: median raphe of the neck
insertions: scapular spine
action: elevate and abduct the limb
rhomboideus
origin: nuchal crest of occipital bone
insertion: dorsal border of scapula
action: elevate the limb and keep the scapula against the trunk
Latissimus Dorsi
origin: lumbar and last thoracic vertebrae
insertion: teres major tuberosity
action: flex the shoulder, retract the limb
Serratus ventralis
origin: transverse processes o cervical vertebrae
insertion: dorsal medical scapula
action: support trunk
Deltoideus
origin: spine and acromion of scapular spine
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
action: flex the shoulder
Supraspinatus
origin: supraspinous fossa
insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
action: sted the shoulder
Infraspinatous
origin: infraspinous fossa
insertion: greater tubercle of the humerus
action: rotate the arm and adducts the arm
Subscapularis
origin: subscapular fossa
insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus
action: adduct and extend the shoulder
Teres major
origin: caudal border of scapula
insertion: teres major tuberosity of humerus
action: flex the shoulder
teres minor
origin: distal third of caudal border of scapula
insertion: ters minor tuberosity of humerus
action: flex the shoulder
coracobrachilais
origin: coracoid process of the scapula
insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus
tenso fascia antebrachii
origin: fasica on lateral side of latissimus dorsi
insertion: olecranon
action: extend the elbow
triceps brachii
origin: long head is caudal scapula, lateral and accessory are humerus, and medial is from lesser tubercle of humerus
insertion: olecranon
action: extend elbow
Anconeus
origin: epichondyles of huemerus
insertion: lateral proximal ulna
biceps brachii
origin: supraglenoid tubercle
insertion: ulnar and radial tuberosities
action: flex the elbow, extend shoulder
brachialis
origin: proximal third of lateral surface of the humerus
insertion: ulnar and radial tuberosities
action: flex the elbow
extensor carpi raidalis
origin: lateral humerus
insertion: dorsal surface of metacarpals 2 and 3
action: extend carpus
common digital extensor:
origin: lateral epichondlyle of humerus
insertion: distal phalanges 1-4
