Endocrine Histo Flashcards
What is the function of the pineal gland?
secretes melatonin, involved in circadian rhythms
what are the two cell types involved in the pineal gland?
pinealocytes and astrocytes
name the two cell types and how to tell them apart
most of the nuclei here are pinealocytes
the smaller darker more ovoid cells are the astrocytes
what gland is this? label the arrows
top left red: pars tuberalis
top black: infundibulum or pituitary stalk
left red: pars distalis
right red: pars intermedia
right blue: posterior pituitary
pituitary gland function
GnRH, FSH,LH
in the anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis), what are the cell types
acidophils: make proloactin
basophils: make ACTH and FSH, LH
chromophobes: not sure what they do
Label these from the anterior pituitary
A: basophils
B: acidophil
C: sinusoid
acidophils are angry, basophils are blue, chromophobes are colorless
what are the two cell types/structures in the posterior pituitary? (neurohypophysis?)
pituicytes: neuroglia
herring bodies: deposits of ADH or oxytocin in nerve terminals
label
A: herring bodies
B: pituicyte nuceli
the thyroid is unique in structure, it looks _____ due to_____
bubbly, follicles
what are the two types of cells in the thyroid? Their function?
follicle cells: higher cells means higher activity, secrete thyroglobin into colloid and can make T3 and T4
C cells: secrete calcitonin
label
A: follicle cells
B: C cell
C: colloid
what is the main type of cell in the parathyroid gland? what is their function?
principle chief cells
secrete parathyroid hormone which increases calcium absorption from gut and kidney and resorption from bone
What is this arrow indicating?
the parathyroid gland amongst the thyroid follicles
this is from the parathyroid. what are these cells?
principle chief cells
