muscle Flashcards
muscle dystrophy types
Duchenne + Becker
Duchen v Becker
D: onset earlier, die earlier, wheelchair bound by puberty, die from respiratory causes , more common , more likely to have mental retardation, life expectancy teens/early 20’s
B: live expectancy late 30”s. wheelchair bound later in their 20’s, onset between 5-15
age for Duchenne
2- 5
what muscle tone is associated with CP
hypertonia but can have hypotonia (ataxic is common)
signs of cerebral palsy
scissoring gait
toe walking
difference between spastic and rigidity
the faster the limb is moved in spastic the more resistance
which children are predisposed to spastic
premature babies due to PVL
most common MD
duchenne
inherttience of mD
X LINKED RECESSEIVE
what is the substnace that is lacking in MD
dystrophin a protein essential for muscle contraction in d uchenne its absent whereas becker its just less
after what age should we looks forgower sign
> 3 years before that it can be normal for children
what is the difference bwteen SMA and MD
the cause :
Md- mutation in the gene
SMA- anterior horn degeneration(so lower motor neuron issue)
similarties between SMA and MD
- muscle weakenss
- both inherited though one is c linked
dx of Md
SMA
Limb girdle muscular dystrophy- but primary affects hips and shoulder joints
myopathys
diagnsis of MD
genetic testing for shytophin gene
CK- MB very high
