osteomyelitis below the ankle in pt with diabetes (mild)
treat as diabetic foot infection
mild: fluclox 0.5-1g QDS 7 days then review
At clarith, doxy, eryth (preg)
what is classed as a mild diabetic foot infection
<2cm
1st line for osteomyelitis + alt + if MRSA suspected
fluclox 6 weeks for acute infection
consider + fusidic acid or rifampicin for initial 2 weeks
allergy: clindamycin 6 weeks
consider + fusidic acid or rifampicin for initial 2 weeks
MRSA suspected: vancomycin or teicoplanin
consider + fusidic acid or rifampicin for initial 2 weeks
1st line septic arthritis
fluclox 4-6 weeks
allergy: clindamycin 4-6 weeks
MRSA: vancomycin or teicoplanin (4-6 weeks)
gonococcal or gram -ve infection: cefotaxime (or ceftriaxone)
1st line is fluclox. what is second line if allergy
