ms a+p Flashcards
joint components
subchondral bone plate
articular cartilage
synovium
joint capsul
synovial joint
diarthrodial joint
any joint that allows movement
subchondral bone plate
bone just underneath the cartilage
articular cartilage
covers bone of joint
provides smooth slippery surface that allows free movement of joint
synovium
consists of space (synovial cavity) btw 2 articulating bones
there is a synovial membrane that is the inner lining of this cavity
the synovial membrane secretes synovial fluid that lubricates joint surfaces and removes debris
joint (articular) capsule
surrounds joint
unites articulating bones
3 phases of bone healing
inflammatory, reparative, remodeling
inflam phase of bone healing
hematoma forms at fracture site
provides stability
aseptic inflam occurs
duration: 1-3 days for hematoma; 3 days - 2wk for early repair
reparative phase of bone healing
fibrous cartilage: formation of granular tissue containing blood vessels, fibroblasts, osteoblasts
formation of callus: when granular tissue has matured
ossification: space in bone is bridged and fracture ends are united, callus replaced by trabecular bone
duration: 6wks
remodeling phase of bone healing
bone consolidation with final remodeling
healing is complete
