Patient presents with a significant sore throat, pain with swelling, and deviation of the uvula (with asymmetrical rise) and a “hot potato” voice. What is your diagnosis?
Peritonsillar abscess
How do you treat peritonsillar abscess?
Aspiration, I&D, and antibiotics. Possible refer for tonsillectomy.
What type of pharcological agent would you prescribe?
Amoxicillin or clinda
Patient has no dental coverage and presents with sensitivity to foods and is not eating. He has been bleeding from his gums and and has tooth pain. Your thoughts?

What is the etiology of a dental abscess?
Bacteria from the mouth/tooth cause a localized collection of pus & infection that surrounds the tooth.
What are some risk factors associated with Dental Abscesses?
Poor hygiene, tooth loss, and dehydration
What would be the lab findings from a dental abscess?
Leukocytosis & neutrophils
How do you treat a dental abscess?
ABX & aspirate/drain
