Intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation
Intrinsic- Between worker and task, usually self-applied
- Long lasting
- Improves job satisfaction
Extrinsic- Between worker an reward
- Can increase motivation for a short period of time
- Applied by manager
Self-determination theory
Autonomous- Motivated by intrinsic factors
Controlled- Motivated by extrinsic factors
Expectancy theory
Effort, Performance, outcome
If I put in the effort and I execute the performance, will i get a reward I want?
Goal setting theory
Goals can motivate people when they are specific, achievable, and challenging.
Job characteristic theory
Jov should be intrinsically designed to improve work ethic/motivation

Skill variety- Give multiple jobs that require different skills
Task variance- Doing a whole piece of work from start to finish
Task significance- Can see the task effect on society/ Organization
Autonomy- Give employees a sense of independence, they decide what needs to get done
Feedback from a job- Let workers know where they are doing good and areas where they can improve
Equity Theory
People want their inputs to match their outputs, if not they will try to equalize that. Can be done by lowering work effort and sabotaging
