Two Kinds of behavioral theory
Initiating- Focused on facilitating group structure and output. Good for production
Consideration- Focusing on group members instead of directly focusing on the task. Good for group morale
What are the two situational theories

What is path-goal theory comprised of?
Directive- Employees has difficulty completing a task, needs help
Supportive- Employee is under stress, needs help dealing with that
Participated- Need for an employee to feel empowered
Achievement Oriented- Reward is needed to lift morale
Kinds of leaders
Task leader- Focused on task and completing the job/ getting the most production possible
Social-Emotional leader- Focused on employee well being, reduces stress, arguments, and other things
Three kinds of transactional leadership
Contingent Reward- Encourage good behavior with rewards
Management by exception (Active)- Looking for deviation in standards and actively fix them
Management by exception (Passive)- Only intervene if standards are not met.
What is laissez Faire leader
A leader does not provide a lot of feedback and very little contact with employees. Not very effective
What is a transformational leader
Someone that provides real change in a company to inspire comment from employees
What are the 4 I’s of a transformational leader
Intellectual stimulation- Promote creativity, problem-solving, and thinking outside of the box.
Individualized consideration- Act as a coach, lead everyone as individuals and change for who you are leading
Inspirational motivation- Communicate high expectations
Idealized influence- Charismatic
Leader-member exchange theory
Focuses on the relationships between employees and leaders. Doing something good for the other person will lead to reciprocation and will build a positive bond between the two
What is a servant leader?
Someone who goes above and beyond for the employees. Putting the employee’s interest above their own. Serve first, lead second.
