What causes process losses?
Social loafing- Not contributing to the group
Free rider effect- Someone one else will do the
work, so why should I.
Sucker Effect- Don’t want to be used by free riders,
so don’t say anything
Evaluation apprehension- Afraid to be judged
Production blocking- Don’t have the opportunity to speak.
How to solve Evaluation Apprehension
Brainstorming in private
Anon. idea submission
Production blocking
Give everyone the opportunity to speak
Write down ideas, so you do not forget them
Social loafing
Make parts of the assignment identifiable to a person, if not completed it’s on them.
Assign unique tasks
Give evaluations to everyone
More process losses
Group polarization- Everyone agrees on the idea, so an echo chamber is created and the original idea is exaggerated
Groupthink- Everyone in the group agrees upon the norm, do not challenge ideas. Or people are too afraid to challenge the norm, so they don’t speak out.
