More endocrine system Flashcards
What is the pituitary gland responsible for?
Growth and water balance as well as reproduction
What are the testes and ovaries responsible for?
reproduction
What is the thyroid responsible for?
metablosim and calcium and glucose levels
What is the parathyroid responsible for?
calcium and glucose levels
What is the pancreas responsible for?
calcium and glucose levels
What are the adrenals responsible for?
response to stress
How is the lymphatic system related to the endocrine system?
lymph provides a route for transport of hormones
How is the digestive system relates to endocrine system?
digestive system provides nutrients to endocrine glands
How is the urinary system related to the endocrine system?
kidneys activate vitamin D (considered a hormone)
How is the muscular system related to endocrine system?
muscular system mechanically protects some endocrine glands
How is the nervous system related to the endocrine system?
hyphothalamus controls anterior pituitary hunction and secretes two hormones, influence normal maturation and function of the nevous system
How is the respiratory system related to the endocrine system?
provides oxyten, disposes of carbon dioxide
-converting enzyme in lungs converts angiotensin I to anglotensin II
How is the cardiovascular system related to the endocrine system?
blood is the main trasport medium of hormones; heart produces atrial natiuretic peptide
How is the reproductive system related to the endocrine system?
hypothalamic, anterior pituitary, and gonadal hormones direct reproductive system development and function. Other hormones involved in birth and breasatfeeding
gonadal hormones feed back to influence endocrine system function
How is the integumentary system related to the endocrine system?
androgens activate sebaceous glands, estrogen increases skin hydration
skin produces a precursor of vitamin d
