What is Persistant depressive disorder?
Persistent depressive disorder, also called dysthymia (dis-THIE-me-uh), is a continuous long-term (chronic) form of depression. You may lose interest in normal daily activities, feel hopeless, lack productivity, and have low self-esteem and an overall feeling of inadequacy.
What is Cyclothymia?
A mental state characterised by marked swings of mood between depression and elation (For over 2 years)
What is Perinatal and postnatal depression?
Depression/Anxiety experienced during pregnancy or within the first year or so after childbirth (May also include weight changes and insomnia)
What is the difference between grief and a mood disorder?
Patients with major depressive disorder are often fixed in the disorganisation stage of grief
What are some psychotherapeutic interventions for mood disorders?
Client-motivated (education around self-management techniques such as how to cope and get through when times are particularly bad) ect, CBT, Therapeutic relationship (listening with interest, reflecting, summarising, and closure)
What are some pharmacotherapy interventions for a patient with a mood disorder?
Antidepressants and mood stabilisers, the nurse will provide education around the medication, side effects, and precautions ect
