Monoclonal/ELISA Flashcards
1
Q
What is a monoclonal antibody?
A
Antibodies with the same tertiary structure
2
Q
How does a monoclonal antibody work?
A
Produced from cloned plasma cells
Only has one shape of variable region so is only complementary to one specific antigen
3
Q
What is a polyclonal antibody?
A
a collection of many different types of
antibodies.
MANY shapes of variable region
Therefore they (collectively) are
complementary to MANY antigens
4
Q
What does ELISA stand for?
A
Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay
5
Q
ELISA test model answer
A
- First antibody binds/complementary to the antigen of interest
- Second antibody with an enzyme is added
- Second antibody binds to first antibody/antigen
- Unbound antibody is washed away
- Solution added and colour change seen
