Train stopped by train failure
If your train fails what should you do?
Tell signaller
Advise that you are investigating or whether an assisting train is needed
If assisting train is needed agree location of the failed train. The type of assisting train needed. The direction from which it is needed
If the train fails

After you have asked for assistance you must not move your train until?
What lights should you display?
Assisting train arrives
Or you have agreed alternative arrangements with the signaller
If assistance is coming from the rear display a red light at the rear of your train
If assistance is coming from the front display a white light at the front of your train
If the train fails what protection should you carry out?
Assistance protection except if permissive working is in operation.
Place 3 dets 20 metres apart at a distance of 300 metres.
This must be placed on the line which your failed train is standing and in the direction which the assisting train will approach.
Stand at the assistance protection location with a red flag
When must you protect the failed train with emergency protection?
If your train has failed and you can’t contact the signaller you only need to carry out emergency protection when your train has failed within a ESW or TBW
Place assistance protection at 300 metres and continue 2km to emergency protection distance.

Where should you stand?
When can you move from this place before assisting train arrives?
Stand at the assistance protection point and display a hand danger signal to the driver of the assisting train when it approaches
Only move if:-
You need to speak to the signaller
You have placed assistance protection dets in a tunnel, in which case you must continue through the tunnel to the far end and wait there
You have to carry out emergency protection

Ic you are providing assistance what are your actions?
Proceed at caution
Keep a look out and stop and pick up the driver of the failed train
You must only enter a tunnel if:-
You have already picked up the driver of the failed train
You know that the driver of the failed train is not in the tunnel and that the tunnel is clear
You must stop immediately on exploding detonators. If you have not already picked up the driver of the failed train or the driver is not waiting at the assistance protecting point you must:-
Stay af that location
Wait for the driver of the failed train to arrive
After you have been told the exact location of the failed train you must proceed af caution towards the train
