Module 8: Blood, Cardiovascular and Repiratory Flashcards
Define Atria
Reservoirs receiving blood from the body or lungs. Right and left atria are separated by interatrial septum
Upper Respiratory Tract
Nasal Cavity, pharynx (naso, oro, larynx), larynx
Right coronary artery
Supplies blood to right atrium, part of the left atrium, most of the right ventricle and inferior part of the left ventricle
Left Coronary Artery
Supplies blood to left atrium most of the left ventricle and most of the interventricular septum
Coronary Sinus
Most cardiac veins empty here, which returns blood to the right atrium
Define Antibody
Substance produced by B lymphocytes in response to a specific antigen
Antigen
any molecule that triggers an immune response
What is the Pericardium?
Surrounding the heart is a double-walled sac
What is the Endocardium?
Lines the heart hambers, covers the valves, and continues into the vessels. It consists of a thin layer of squamous epithelial cells
What is Myocardium?
Forms the middle layer of the pericardium, composed of cardiac muscle, thickest of the 3 layers
What is the Epicardium?
Thin layer of squamous epithelial cells covering the hearts surface
What are the Ventricles?
Serving as pumps they receive blood from the atria and pumping to either the lungs (right ventricle) or the body (left ventricle)
What are the Semilunar Valves?
Pulmonary valve between pulmonary artery and right ventricle. Aortic valve between aorta and left ventricle
What are the atrioventricular valves?
Tricuspid and Bicuspid
What is the Atrioventricular Node?
Group of pacemaker cells in the interatrial septum that relays impulses from the atria to the ventricles
